For more than 15 years, Daniel has tutored high school, college, and graduate students in admissions
essays and applications, standardized testing, writing, literature, the humanities, and study skills.
During this time he has also written for several of the nation's top publications, including the New
York Times, US News & World Report, the Washington Post, and Salon. He has
covered a wide range of topics from science to pop culture, spanning feature articles, book reviews,
essays, short stories, and news reports. Since 2002, he has taught creative writing, literature, poetry,
and publishing courses at various institutions, including Hunter College in New York City and
the 92nd Street Y. He has also taught at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
With a dual-major in Philosophy and Journalism, Daniel graduated Magna Cum Laude from George
Washington University. He received the Presidential Academic Scholarship for attaining Summa Cum
Laude for six consecutive semesters and was awarded Special Honors in Journalism. Currently, he is a
member of the venerable New York Authors Guild and the New York Writers Workshop. He was most recently
selected to the summer residency program for artists at the esteemed Vermont Studio Center.

Abby Deutsch
A native New Yorker, Abby graduated from Stuyvesant High School and went on to Yale University, where she earned a BA in English. After finishing college, she spent a year teaching in a French town so small even its residents had barely heard of it. Since her return to the States, Abby has published essays and reviews in a variety of publications, and received an MA in arts writing from Columbia University’s School of Journalism. Abby guides students through SAT prep, college admissions, French, and various academic subjects. She enjoys poetry and coffee.

Andrew Brotzman
Andrew is a Columbia University graduate with a BA in Computer Science. He was formally trained as a tutor by The Princeton Review in 2001, has taught both classes and one-on-one programs, and in 2005 wrote a book on the New SAT for use in a class whose curriculum he designed. He has worked in independent film for the past five years and has recently re-enrolled at Columbia for an MFA in film directing. His first short film, entitled “My Mom And Dad,” won best short in its category at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival. Andrew excels at tutoring the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests (Literature and Math), GRE, college admissions, and various academic fields.

Anna Robertson
Anna is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where she received a BA in Romance Literatures (French & Spanish). During her undergraduate studies, Anna had the opportunity to spend a year abroad, studying at both the Sorbonne in Paris and the Instituto Internacional in Madrid. A native of Washington, D.C., she moved to New York City to attend graduate school. Since completing her MFA in Acting from the New School for Drama she has pursued her passion for acting and her love of teaching. Anna currently tutors students in French and Spanish.

Ashley Wellington
Ashley graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English Literature. She also earned a certificate in Creative Writing for putting together a collection of original work, and was the recipient of the Theodore Weiss Creative Writing award. She then moved to Scotland for a year and earned an M.Litt with Distinction in English from the University of St. Andrews. Upon her return, Ashley moved to NYC and spent a year thinking she wanted to pursue a career in advertising. Eventually, though, she found her way back to the things she truly loves: teaching and writing. She tutors a wide range of academic subjects, as well as the SAT, ACT, and the Literature SAT Subject Test. When she’s not trying to finish her novel, she enjoys backpacking, doing crossword puzzles, and playing with her puppy, Nancy Drew.

Dan Zahler
Dan earned a BA in Chemistry from Harvard University and a JD from Harvard Law School. In college he served as a teaching assistant in mathematics and editor-in-chief of the Harvard Independent, a weekly student newsmagazine. After contemplating a journalism path, Dan decided to pursue a career in the business world, working as an analyst at Goldman Sachs and a consultant at McKinsey. In his free time, Dan enjoys sports, teaching, and screenwriting. He tutors the SAT, SAT Subject Tests (Chemistry and Math), and college admissions.

Diana Richter
Since she first donned her tour guide jacket as an undergraduate at New York University, Diana has been helping students navigate the college admissions process, as well as the college experience. At NYU, she earned her BS in Communication Studies and, later, an MA in Higher Education. In between degrees, she found herself assisting in the management of an educational center, as well as working in undergraduate admissions. Diana is a career development counselor today and, when she’s not advising students on how to figure out the age-old question, What do I want to be when I grow up?, she can be found on an adventure travel trip, taking dance classes, or reading memoirs and menus.

Ed Herzman
Ed got his BA in English from Boston College, where he received the Randall Award for best American Studies essay, and is now finishing his Master’s in American History at Hunter College. With ten years of teaching experience, he is currently the chair of the history department at an independent school in New York City and teaches American and African history at the middle and high school levels and in the International Baccalaureate program. Ed has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to study in Ghana and from the Gilder-Lehrman Foundation to study America’s Reconstruction period at Columbia University. In his spare time, he runs long distances, spins records and attends Yankee games. Ed’s specialties include SAT Subject Tests (History and Literature), college admissions, and humanities-based courses.

Elana Bildner
Elana graduated from Yale University with a BA in Philosophy. At Yale, she spent most of her time downing coffee at the Yale Daily News, with summer stints at the Miami Herald, Wall Street Journal, and Legal Affairs magazine. Elana is currently active with a non-profit research firm, where she evaluates social programs for disadvantaged families. She is a self-described language addict whose repertoire includes Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and a bit of Russian. In addition to her language expertise, Elana tutors the SAT, SAT Subject Tests (Literature, Math, and Spanish), ACT, college admissions, and various academic subjects.

Eleanor Griffith
Eleanor has been speaking French for over 10 years, since spending her junior year of high school in France, where she attended a lycée and learned the language through rather painful but very effective immersion. She received a BA in English from St. Olaf College, where she added Spanish to her linguistic arsenal. In New York, she has taught English at the International Center, worked in the foreign rights department for a literary agency, and served as editor and publications manager at the French Government Tourist Office. In addition to having lived in France, she has traveled to Argentina, Mexico, and Costa Rica, cultivating her French and Spanish passions, which have served her well as a French and Spanish tutor. Her hairstyle, like her language of choice, has a tendency to change frequently.

Emer Vaughn
Emer is a graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in English and American Literature and Language, and wrote and edited for a number of publications, including The Harvard Crimson, The Harvard Book Review, and The Harvard Magazine. After graduating, Emer spent two years working at the Wylie Agency, an international literary agency based in New York. She is currently applying to English doctoral programs and studying French and German. Her tutoring specialties include the SAT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT college admissions, and academic tutoring in a range of subjects including chemistry, algebra, geometry, history, and English. Beyond academics, she enjoys jogging, cooking, exploring the city, and reading British and American modernist fiction.

George Lakis
George Lakis graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Chemistry and an MA in Education. He has taught chemistry, physics, math, and creative writing for more than five years in both public and private high schools. He currently tutors SAT Subject Tests in all science and math exams, SAT (math), ACT (math and science), ISEE, SSAT, as well as various academic subjects. When not tutoring, George plays guitar in an NYC rock band. He has recently completed his first screenplay and loves to travel, having gone cross-country 3 times in the last 10 years. The only state he’s never been to is North Dakota. He is also fluent in Greek.

Ian Pervil
Ian has spent much of his life trying to find creative outlets for his varied interests. A decade ago, after winning a National Science Foundation scholarship and being named state champion in genetics, this Renaissance man from Missouri attended Harvard University with plans to be a math or science major. Four years later, he graduated with honors in English and American Literature. He is currently the head of the English department at a private school in New York City, though he continues to work on math problems in his spare time. As a lifelong learner, he intends to return to school one day to pursue an advanced degree in psychology.

Ilya Gidalevich
Ilya graduated from Yale University with a dual degree in Political Science and Music. He spent a year as an analyst at Goldman Sachs and since then has devoted his energy to the arts. On any given day, you can find him singing, dancing, conducting, composing, and playing any musical instrument he can get his hands on. Ilya tutors the SAT, SAT Subject Tests (Literature and Math), college admissions, and Russian. He really likes Fig Newtons.

Jonathan Breit
Jonathan Breit is a graduate of Yale University with a BA in Linguistics and an MM in Music Theory from Mannes College of Music. In addition to being a language buff who has studied French, Italian, and Latin, among other languages, he is also a composer and pianist. He tutors languages and various academic subjects.

Michael Brotzman
Michael graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Computer Science. As a computer scientist, Michael has taught computer systems and web application development, and has interned at Google as a software engineer and at Yahoo! as a scientific researcher. Otherwise he is a photographer, classical guitarist, screenwriter, and (necessarily) an avid coffee drinker. He received a research-based Master's in Computer Science from Columbia University that focuses on Social Network Analysis. His areas of expertise include the SAT, Math SAT Subjects Tests, ISEE, SSAT, college admissions, English composition, and advanced calculus.

Ruben Savizky
A native of Buenos Aires, Ruben received a BE in Chemical Engineering from the Cooper Union and his MS and PhD in Chemistry from Yale University. He is currently an assistant professor at the Cooper Union, where he is actively involved in teaching various undergraduate chemistry courses. In addition, he has also taught courses at New York University, Columbia University, and the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. His current research interests include bioinformatics and applications of nanotechnology to chemistry and biology. As a tutor, Ruben has helped students excel in SAT Subject Tests (Biology, Chemistry Physics, and Math), AP exams (Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus) and several science classes. When he’s not talking or thinking about science and math, Ruben can be found tango dancing, exercising religiously, or karaoking in the East Village.

Stephanie Karpoff
Born and raised in New York City, Stephanie earned a BA in Anthropology from Binghamton University and her Master’s from Boston University, and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Health at the CUNY Graduate College. In addition to tutoring, Stephanie holds a full-time job as a Research Manager at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2001, she began tutoring for the SAT in West Harlem on a volunteer basis through NY Cares, ultimately managing the tutoring center. In 2003, she began working for Kaplan, where she stayed until joining MAP in 2006. In addition to tutoring, Stephanie enjoys running, embroidery, and traveling (she has been to 17 countries). She has been tutoring students for the SAT and the Math SAT Subject Tests for seven years.
