Daniel Stern, Founder and CEO

For more than a decade, Daniel has tutored high school, college, and graduate students in admissions essays and applications, standardized testing, writing, literature, the humanities, and study skills. During this time he has also written for several of the nation's top publications, including the New York Times, US News & World Report, the Washington Post, and Salon. He has covered a wide range of topics from science to pop culture, spanning feature articles, book reviews, essays, short stories, and news reports. Since 2002, he has taught creative writing, literature, poetry, and publishing courses at various institutions, including Hunter College in New York City and the 92nd Street Y. He has also taught at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

With a dual-major in Philosophy and Journalism, Daniel graduated Magna Cum Laude from George Washington University. He received the Presidential Academic Scholarship for attaining Summa Cum Laude for six consecutive semesters and was awarded Special Honors in Journalism. Currently, he is a member of the venerable New York Authors Guild and the New York Writers Workshop. He was most recently selected to the summer residency program for artists at the esteemed Vermont Studio Center.

Andrew Brotzman

Andrew Brotzman

Tutor

Andrew is a Columbia University graduate with a BA in Computer Science. He was formally trained as a tutor by The Princeton Review in 2001, has taught both classes and one-on-one programs, and in 2005 wrote a book on the New SAT for use in a class whose curriculum he designed. He has worked in independent film for the past three years and has recently re-enrolled at Columbia for an MFA in film directing. His first short film, entitled “My Mom And Dad,” won best short in its category at the 2006 Slamdance Film Festival. Andrew excels at tutoring the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests (Literature and Math), GRE, college admissions, and various academic fields.

Anna is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, CA, where she received a BA in Romance Literatures (French & Spanish). During her undergraduate studies, Anna had the opportunity to spend a year abroad, studying at both the Sorbonne in Paris and the Instituto Internacional in Madrid. A native of Washington, D.C., she moved to New York City to attend graduate school. Since completing her MFA in Acting from the New School for Drama she has pursued her passion for acting and her love of teaching. Anna currently tutors students in French and Spanish.


Elana Bildner

Elana graduated from Yale University with a BA in Philosophy. At Yale, she spent most of her time downing coffee at the Yale Daily News, with summer stints at the Miami Herald, Wall Street Journal, and Legal Affairs magazine. Elana is currently active with a non-profit law firm, where she coordinates a research study about domestic violence and the New York City court system. She is a self-described language addict whose repertoire includes Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, and a bit of Russian. In addition to her language expertise, Elana also tutors the SAT and various academic subjects.


Eleanor Griffith

Eleanor has been speaking French for over 10 years, since spending her junior year of high school in France, where she attended a lycée and learned the language through rather painful but very effective immersion. She received a BA in English from St. Olaf College, where she added Spanish to her linguistic arsenal. In New York, she has taught English at the International Center, worked in the foreign rights department for a literary agency, and served as editor and publications manager at the French Government Tourist Office. In addition to having lived in France, she has traveled to Argentina, Mexico, and Costa Rica, cultivating her French and Spanish passions, which have served her well as a French and Spanish tutor. Her hairstyle, like her language of choice, has a tendency to change frequently.

Josh earned a BA in Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought from Amherst College and an MFA in Creative Writing from Brooklyn College. He has published a variety of fictional works, lectured at the undergraduate level, and is currently working on a novel. Josh played college basketball for Amherst and still enjoys a game of pick-up hoops when he’s not writing or tutoring, though his vertical leap isn’t what it used to be. His areas of expertise include the SAT, SAT Subject Tests (Literature and Math), college admissions, and a variety of academic subjects (specializing in English composition and grammar).


Ian Pervil

Ian has spent much of his life trying to find creative outlets for his varied interests. A decade ago, after winning a National Science Foundation scholarship and being named state champion in genetics, this Renaissance man from Missouri attended Harvard University with plans to be a math or science major. Four years later, he graduated with honors in English and American Literature. He is currently the head of the English department at a private school in New York City, though he continues to work on math problems in his spare time. As a lifelong learner, he intends to return to school one day to pursue an advanced degree in psychology.


Ruben Savizky

Ruben, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, received a BE in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union and his MS and PhD in Chemistry from Yale University. He is currently an assistant professor at The Cooper Union, where he is actively involved in teaching various undergraduate chemistry courses. His current research interests range from bioinformatics to applications of nanotechnology to chemistry and biology. As a tutor, Ruben has helped students excel in SAT Subject Tests (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Math), AP exams (Chemistry, Biology, and Calculus) and several science classes. When he’s not talking or thinking about science and math, Ruben can be found tango dancing, exercising religiously, or karaoking in the East Village.


Sarah Sclarsic

Sarah is a graduate of Harvard University with a BA in Bioethics and Public Policy. She has traveled around the world several times, most recently to work for the Clinton Foundation in Southern Africa. At Harvard, Sarah worked as a research scientist, contributing to a significant study on learning and memory that was published in Cell. She also created many humorous illustrations for The Harvard Lampoon, and now spends her free time playing the piano, painting, and going to rock concerts. Her extensive tutoring specialties include the SAT, SAT Subject Tests (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Literature), ACT, ISEE, college admissions, and a range of academic subjects.


Stephanie Skoler

Stephanie Skoler

Stephanie has been tutoring students for the SAT and the Math Subject Tests for six years. Born and raised in New York City, she earned a BA in Anthropology from Binghamton University and a Masters in Public Health from Boston University. In addition to tutoring, Stephanie conducts HIV prevention research for an international non-profit based on the Upper East Side. In 2001, she began tutoring for the SAT's in West Harlem on a volunteer basis through NY Cares. After one year with NY Cares, she expanded her role from tutor to both tutor and manager, teaching both math and verbal, while supervising 5 tutors and approximately 20 students. In 2003, she began working for Kaplan, where she stayed until joining MAP in 2006. In addition to tutoring, Stephanie has recently started running, completing her first 10K in May 2007. Her other hobbies include embroidery and traveling (she has been to 17 countries).
